Experience Winter in the North Country

Experience Winter in the North Country of New Hampshire

When the weather turns cold and snowy, the fun and excitement gets red hot in the North Country.

Winter is a magical time in our region, when snow and ice turns our miles of beautiful wilderness into an epic playground for some of winter’s most enjoyable activities. Each winter, the North Country becomes the snowmobiling capital of New England. The region has more than 700 miles of groomed snowmobiling trails that weave through snow-covered wilderness and provide visitors with easy access to lodging, restaurants, stores and fuel. The snowmobiling season is capped off with the GoNorth Snofest, an exciting winter festival featuring family activities, demos of next season snowmobiles, snowshoeing, food vendors and a parade, held in early March.

Also during the winter, the region’s vast collection of hiking trails become wonderful places for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Enjoy sledding? The region’s hilly terrain provides plenty of opportunities for downhill excitement. Try ice skating at the North Country Community Recreation Center, which has a large outdoor ice rink. Or, for another fun activity on ice, enjoy ice fishing on one of the North Country’s many lakes and ponds.
